Our New Kitchen Appliances

Started this morning with one of my favorite treats- a hot Starbucks Passion Tea. It's a treat because I COULD make it at home, but somehow their extra hot water and red cups make it test better! Love how tart is.

On to the point of this entry: our new appliances! I wrote yesterday how over-the-top in love I am with this stove. Now you can see why:

Yes. Griddle OR burner in the middle. Super fast boiling with 17,000 btu up front. Convection. Self-cleaning. Basically it's the perfect oven. I am more excited to get this installed than I am for Christmas. Which makes sense because this kitchen has to be our Christmas presents this year!

Also, a new fridge. Ours has some temperature issues. It will freeze things on the top shelf. Even after manually changing the temp. The freezer puts frost on EVERYTHING. So, to match the oven :

They are bought and paid for….just need to rip down some cabinets and install some flooring before I can cook (and refrigerate) my little heart out!

Alright, I have postponed my grad school papers due this week long enough!

My Foray into The Paleo Diet

Okay first I have to clarify how I say “Paleo”. My first instinct was to give it along a “pah-lay-oh”. So that's what I said. Until people started making fun of me. Apparently it's Paleo (pay-leo)– like paleontology of course.

Anyways, so I embarked on this diet thinking it sounded pretty darn close to The Core, minus the fact you can't eat beans or most dairy. (Greek Yogurt was painful to say goodbye to).

I ended up doing about 9 days on it perfectly, fell off the wagon (hard), and then came back. However-the lack of dairy isn't practical for me.mmi use cottage cheese and yogurt as a pretty big protein source. So I added that back in.

Doing it 100% though–I felt AWESOME. I wasn't working out at the time so I'm not sure how to approach the pre-run food. Dates would be a staple I guess. I lost weight too, of course. I wasn't tired all the time, or exhausted when I woke up like I was before. Attribute that to Paleo or to the lack of gluten–I think it was a combination of both.

I had a lot of fun cooking according to the guidelines. Here's a sample of my eats:

Tonight's dinner (I am currently obsessed with Brussels sprouts). Was supposed to include roasted sweet potato but our kitchen appointment ran wayyyyy over and I didn't have the hour to do it properly before I fainted!

Me and PW demolished a rotisserie chicken today. We eat all organic, grass feed meat, with the exception of my rotisserie chicken habit. It's seriously an issue, I could eat a whole one myself! (Practically did today)

A daily occurrence in our house is still juicing. I'm actually sipping it as the side to my dinner now.

Each glass (serving) contains 1 apple, 1/2 lime, ginger, 1 beet, and 1/2 head of kale. Some SERIOUS nutrients going on in there!

We bought a new stove and refrigerator today. Which means no lunch for 2 weeks so we can afford it 🙂 just kidding, but seriously caused me hyperventilating. I've never had to buy appliances–our house came with working, albeit finicky and miniature, ones so there was no need. I can't take anymore frozen cottage cheese though!

I will leave you in suspense and post pictures tomorrow but just know I am in LOVE with it. Head over heels-never leave the kitchen-can I cook anything else PLEASE?-Love with it!

Heaven in a Stairwell

So, one month after we moved in to our house, I decided I hated all the wallpaper in it and wanted it ALL gone. I figured the easiest (read: smallest and with the worst/loosest wallpaper) place to start was the stairwell. Halfway through one wall I realized it wasnt happening. Then I took down the drywall. IMMEDIATE REGRET. Our stairwell is so awkward shaped! Needless to say, we went three years, and 2 room reno's and it was still studs on that wall.

But not after yesterday! PW called a guy to do it, and since he was already coming, we decided to rip down the other stairwell wall…and the entire upstairs hallway. That too was an event but so worth it. After yesterday we went from this:

To this:

I am so happy to have walls I don't even care if we ever sand and paint! The only downside? Our wood floors now look like this:

Sad face! But again, so worth it.

Now, off for a quick jog. With my sweet new playlist–which definitely involves My Clique.

My foray into Paleo update tonight!

ThatRunnerWho?!

Hey guys!

I have been out of blog commission for a while (in addition to out of running commission, out of hanging out with friends commission, etc.). Things have been crazy! I am jumping back in head first!

Over the last two months I've been doing a lot of work–the first couple months is always insanely busy. Pair that with grad school and I pretty much walk around with this attached to my body:

Did I mention I applied for another Masters program? Because I am an overachiever I did. It is in teaching ESL and will take place at my Alma Mater! So there is another five years if hectic-ness I committed and am SO excited for. Only one semester of overlap in programs, I will be extremely academic then! 🙂

We also decided to redo our kitchen so have been in the process of getting that underway. If you've been following my blog for a while you know that we have a really old house and gave been redoing the rooms one by one, pretty much one a year after PWs race season is over. This year we decided to make the commitment for the most drastic (and time/cost intensive) room. So we've been looking at a lot of this, picking stuff out:

And flooring, and countertop, and appliances. Slightly overwhelming!

On the running aspect–I need to get my rear end in gear. As its the only thing that keeps me sane, you can imagine what a complete nut I've been lately! My students wonder why I am all over the room while teaching. Running needs to be a priority!

I have a review to give you on a pair of Brooks shorts I bought and loooove, hopefully coming tonight! Long weekend = blog central!
