Speedwork has begun

Today marks the start of speedwork. That means starting this week I am doing Zone 2 stuff (86%-93% of my lactic threshold) and HILLS (bounding) in addition to my regular Zone 1 stuff.

But before I get to my run, let me back up.

PW has had a flat front tire for the last 2 days. While driving home from the after school activity I chaperone, I called Triple A. They were way more efficient than I remember. They told me somebody would be there within the hour to fix it, and they were! I only waited 15 minutes. Check out just HOW flat his tire was though:

After that was fixed, I went in the house. And was immediately cranky. I didnt have a legitimate reason. I was just tired, didn’t want to run, hungry, and the house was 56 degrees inside. Add that all together and you had a mood even leftover brownie from last night couldnt fix! Pulled myself together to go to the gym though where I had a pretty awesome workout. It was 2×10 at Zone 2.

Here was the run:

20 minute warm-up at Zone 1 (8:20ish/mi pace)
10 minutes Zone 2 (8:00 minute/mi pace)
5 minute Zone 1 (8:46 minute/mi pace)
10 minutes Zone 2 (8:00 minute/mi pace)
10 minute Zone 1 cooldown (9:00/mi minute pace)

For a total run of 55 minutes.  For the Zone 2 stuff I started ay 8:13 pace and methodically worked my way down to 7:49 pace. This was on a treadmill though, so it has to be taken with a grain of salt!

These are the songs I listened to for my 20 minutes hard:

(They got me movin’!)

Down With the Sickness –Disturbed

Killing in the Name Of –Rage Against the Machine

Stand Up –Ludacris

Boom Boom Pow –Black Eyed Peas

I am happy with my paces right now. Looking forward to the Hyannis 10k (going to use the RunCalculator.com to figure out my pace for it, inputting my Zone 1 paces!) AND hill bounding on Thursday…outside. In the 55 degree weather!

The run dramatically improved my mood. And helped me decide what I wanted for dinner. I didnt want anything heavy. I wanted a meal from my childhood, actually. Grilled cheese (on the George Foreman grill) and salad. My mom used to make this for me all the time. I even used the salad dressing she would use!

I made myself a mocktail, too. Seltzer water with pomegranate/blueberry juice. THAT drink stole the show!

The lettuce in the above picture? That was used for PW’s fantastical burritos that I made him. Chicken with taco seasoning, jasmine rice, sauteed onions and peppers, and spring mix lettuce. All on a Joseph’s Low Carb Lavash Bread. Or two!

After trying that jasmine rice, I can totally see what the big deal about it is. It was tasty!

Alright, I have to go respond to a suggestion from PW.  You see, my husband just told me he was thinking maybe we should start playing tennis together once or twice a month, as a way to spend time together. I vote take the dogs for a walk instead, but that could be due to the fact I have terrible (horrible, no-good) hand-eye coordination!  The only good thing about tennis (to me) is the cute dresses/skirts you get to play in!

Do you play tennis?

Only Wii!

What meal reminds you of childhood?

Chicken pot pie, grilled cheese, soup.  So many!  My mom always cooked dinner for us growing up, and shes the best cook I know!

  1. I tried playing tennis in high school…I did not continue trying.
Looks fun-but I am not too good at it! haha I’d prob. be on your side with walking the dog, but it doesn’t hurt to try it first!

  2. I was really bad at tennis, yet still went to tennis camp for 2 or 3 summers when I was younger!! I always tell Nick we should play tennis just because I’m awful, but it would be fun. Maybe we can play doubles and the boys can really play and you and I can just wear cute outfits!!
